"Eyeglasses are tiny pieces of art that compliment and accent your own unique personality." -Anthony Marquez, CEO Marq Optical

I spent most of my life growing up in East Los Angeles. I was fortunate enough to experience the vibrant culture and lifestyle because of my grandparents and running errands with them. The vibrant colors, talent, and distinct artwork styles inspired me. It was electrifying and full of life.

Growing up, I was introduced to art by my aunt and uncle, who were commercial artists. They showed me a new perspective on life and encouraged me to explore and try new things with art. I would spend hours engrossed in their many art books, attracted to ask the details, lines, shapes, and colors.

A significant turning point in my life was when my father took me with him as a child to pick out his new pair of prescription eyeglasses. This shop had a one-hour lab in the back of the store that you could see as you walked in, and I was instantly captived by that and the beautiful pieces of eyewear on display like artwork.

The concept of glasses going beyond a medical need and being an accent piece showcasing your personality influenced me to attend American Career College in Los Angeles for the optician program. I wanted to learn as much I could and be a part of this unique culture and lifestyle.

After American Career College, I was fortunate enough to intern at a boutique optical shop in Beverly Hills that carried their eyewear line exclusively, which was unheard of at the time. The time I spent there opened my eyes to the possibilities of having my optical shop with endless capabilities.

As a consultant with over 20 years of optical operations, retail, laboratory, and design experience, working for various private and international companies, I am offering help with navigating tricky obstacles optical shops can face.
